Calling all Doulas, Birthworkers, and Midwives - Share Your Experience with MDH!

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) is excited to share two opportunities for you to share your experience and expertise:

      • A survey for doulas and birthworkers to learn more about who you are, where you work, and what you need to succeed. SURVEY LINK

      • A survey for midwives to learn details of your practice, barriers to success, and ways to improve access to the field. SURVEY LINK

The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete and will close on June 30, 2026. Survey responses will help build up the workforce of doulas and midwives in Minnesota and continue to improve the health outcomes of mothers, fathers, birthing people, and infants.

Survey data will be used to:

      • Update baseline demographic and workforce data.

      • Identify important needs of each workforce.

      • Identify important strengths of each workforce.

      • Support strategic objectives to increase access to services.

        EVENTS

Join MNPQC’s Upcoming Perinatal Education ECHO Series: “Rare, but Severe:” The Critical Realities of Postpartum Psychosis

MNPQC is excited to share another learning opportunity during our Perinatal Education ECHO series! On Thursday, June 25, 2026, from 12:00 - 1:00 pm, participants will explore the Critical Realities of Postpartum Psychosis with context expert Tolu Odebunmi, MBBS, MPH.

Postpartum psychosis is a rare but severe psychiatric emergency characterized by atypical presentations and rapidly fluctuating symptoms that are frequently overlooked or misdiagnosed. This session will help listeners differentiate the clinical presentation of postpartum psychosis from other perinatal mood disorders through a case-based approach and will explore the critical window for intervention to ensure the safety of both the parent and the infant.

This topic is especially timely following recommendations from the Maternal Mortality Review Committee (MMRC) 2017-2021 report, which highlighted the ongoing need to strengthen perinatal mental health supports across the state. If you are a professional or advocate looking for tools to help formulate a setting-specific response plan to support your patients or clients, this learning opportunity offers a valuable place to start.

New 2026 State Report Cards on Maternal and Mental Health Care

The Policy Center for Maternal Mental Health recently released its 2026 Maternal Mental Health State Report Cards, which evaluate states across four key domains: screening and detection, providers and treatment, policy and payment, and parental support. These measures provide valuable insight into how well states are supporting the mental health needs of birthing people and where opportunities for improvement remain.

Minnesota received a C grade, highlighting both progress and opportunities for continued improvement in maternal mental health care. When visiting the Policy Center’s website to explore Minnesota’s report card, you’ll be able to learn more about the measures and methodology, compare results across states, and request access to the recording of the 2026 State Report Card Briefing held on May 27, 2026. Staying informed on these annual report cards can help support efforts to improve maternal mental health outcomes for Minnesota families.
